The liver is one of the largest organs in the body and is instrumental in our well-being both physically and psychologically. It is a great mediator in the body that detoxifies toxins and renews our system and over-all health. However, when the liver works overtime due to large intake of alcohol, protein, medication and processed food, it can instigate our stress hormones that trigger a reaction on our skin such as allergy.
Even those who live a healthy lifestyle are not immune from these symptoms, primarily because many other factors such as genetics, gut-flora, environmental pollutants and nutrient deficiencies come into play.
Our liver helps filter blood coming off our digestive tracts hence, when it is not functioning properly bits of bacterial cell walls flood the portal circulation and overwhelm the liver’s capacity to detox – triggering the immune system and cause a reaction throughout the body and onto our skin.
Symptoms of liver overload:
- Fatigue
- Skin rashes
- Itching
- Inflammatory conditions such as eczema
- Minor digestive problems
When these symptoms occur a simple lifestyle change is in order and taking a detox course of action can be a great start for a healthy liver to keep skin clear and minimize allergies. The following are thus in order:
- Detoxify – take liquid smoothies such as green veggies and fruits
- Water is still king – never underestimate the effects of hydration
- Don’t stress out – breath
- Switch to non-alcoholic beverages
- Avoid common reactive foods like dairies, eggs, caffeine, alcohol and sugar
Liver maintenance can do wonders especially when we detoxify and flush out toxins that harm our body and irritate our skin.
